Lee-Elliot (1903 - 1988) was a notable British graphic artist, particularly remembered for his posters for Imperial Airways, Southern Railways and the General Post Office, for whom he designed the famous Airmail Wings.

British Airways was formed in 1935 with the merging of several smaller airlines. It was nationalised and then merged with Imperial Airways to form the British Overseas Airline Corporation BOAC. Lee-Elliot's winged lion logo did not last long past the merger, however his Speedbird became the universal symbol for BOAC for many years to come.
