James Northfield (1887 - 1973) was one of Australia's most successful and well known commercial artists between 1920 and 1950. His work for the Victorian Government Railways and the Australian National Travel Association played an essential role in both creating symbols of national identity and selling Australia to the rest of the world.

Northfield produced a great number of posters of rural destinations for the victorian Railways. The Grampians feature often, in grand compositions. Northfield's work journals, held by the National Libray's manuscript Collection, also record the area as one of the most popular subjects in his oil paintings.

This poster is not linen backed.
