Edward Bawden (1903 - 1989) was an English painter, illustrator and graphic artist. His varied and highly successful output includes press advertisements, poster designs, book illustrations, ceramics, furniture, wallpapers and textiles, for clients such as Shell-Mex, Westminster Bank, Twinings and Imperial Airways. From 1924 - 1952 Bawden designed posters and various other ephemera for the Underground Group and the London Transport Board.

The artist created many works for Imperial Airways, who merged to become British Airways in 1939. This image is proposing a weekend jaunt across the channel to Le Touquet, a holiday resort town in northern France.
